Hello from New York, everyone!  I just left this year’s MoCCA arts festival and my new mini-comic, SXSW 2010, got listed by the New York Daily News as one of the 21 best comics at the show!  Check out the list here - you’ll find some rad new comics including stuff from my good friends Alec  Longstreth, Joe Lambert and Jason Week!
Here is a piece that also debuted this weekend in the new, super awesome publication CABOOSE!  Edited by Chuck Forsman and Max De Radigues =)

Cartoon College: A Documentary

Over the past month or so I’ve had the great pleasure of being part of a documentary that filmmakers Tara Wray and Josh Melrod are making that focuses on The Center for Cartoon Studies.  Tara and Josh have been following us around while we work, live and play and artfully capturing the unique experiences of being a cartooning student.

You can watch the trailer here (I’m in it for a few seconds near the end) and, while you do, it’d be great if you’d think about making a modest donation to help Tara and Josh finish the film…so it can go on to festivals and win awards and the world can finally know how truly great CCS is! MWAHAHA!

Also, anyone who donates $10 or more to the project will receive a printed 8-page minicomic by your favorite fundraising female cartoonists, me and Jen Vaughn =).

Walking through the French quarter with one of my very favorite people and probably the most rock and roll dude I know, Chad Vanko!  More New Orleans comics coming soon!

My first rejected submission!!!  Woohoo!  The beginning of many rejection letters to come I’m sure, but it’s great - it’s all part of the long quest to get published in as many places as possible!
I didn’t totally follow directions for this - it was supposed to be a singular illustration, and there probably weren’t supposed to be bare breasts but, if there’s no swearing there’s gotta be some nudity and decapitation, right?  RIGHT?  Long live bare breasts!

My very best friend in the whole wide world started a hilarious sketch comedy troupe called Lady Parts… AND they’re in the running to win $10,000.00 toward their project! They’re neck and neck with another group right now and the contest ends at midnight tonight.  It’d mean a lot to me if you guys would take a minute to vote for them. You can click this link to do so.  You will have to register with the web entertainment guide and get a password to vote, but the whole process will take you about 2 minutes. If you’re bored at work or you’re on break or you have the day off and you have 2 minutes sometime today, click a couple things on your screen and help my friends out!

So, my hilarious, talented, beautiful fellow cartoonist Jen Vaughn (above) is going to the South by Southwest Interactive festival next week - and she needs your help to get there!  I’m reposting her offer below BUT, I’m also going to sweeten the deal for you guys: anyone who donates $5.00 or more to Jen’s cause will also get a collection of my art and notes from this year’s SXSW music festival which I’ll be attending - that’s TWO collections from TWO kick-ass festivals from TWO rad cartoonists!  It’ll be like you were there yourself!
When you go to Jen’s site to donate just mention in the notes section that you were referred by me.  Jen will let me know who donates and I’ll make sure you get your comics!  Here’s her story:
Cartoonist Jen Vaughn is thrilled to announce her first SXSW InteractiviZINE! From March 12th to March 16th, she will attend the SXSW (South by Southwest) Interactive Festival in Austin, TX and will “cover” the event multimedia-style in her Interactivitizine! SXSW is chock full of panels, events, and of course parties, related to social media, convergence, video games, start-ups and anything Internet. Upon the conclusion of her visit, Jen will post her drawings, notes, photos and other ephemera from the festival on her website for everyone to share the wealth of information gleaned. Jen is accepting donations of $5 and up towards her SXSW InteractiviZINE experience via her website (http://www.mermaidhostel.com/sxsw-interactivizine-fundraiser/). Anyone who donates will receive a LIMITED EDITION (PRINT) SXSW InteractiviZINE full of panel notes, comics and other special goodies made especially by Jen Vaughn. Jen creates a weekly webcomic called Mermaid Hostel (http://www.mermaidhostel.com) and her previous works include Menstruation Station: Menarche Aboard!, and Don’t Hate, Menstruate.
